FIFTH BALKAN MINERAL PROCESSING CONFERENCE
โ€œVALORIZATION OF MINERAL RESOURCESโ€

The Fifth BMPC took place in Varna, Bulgaria, from October 9 to 11, 1989. The chairman was Prof. Dr. Kiriak Kovachev. The major topic of the conference was โ€œValorization of Mineral Resourcesโ€. It was evident even then, from the number of published papers and the number of participants at the conference, that the interest in the conference was declining. The real reason is unknown, but it may be related to the transition period in Eastern Europe.

Six years between the 5th and 6th BMPCs

After the Fifth BMPC, years passed without any planned activity in BMPC until 1995. That is when Prof. Dr. Gรผven Onal, Head of the Mineral Processing Section of the Mining Faculty, Istanbul Technical University, and Member of BSC, called a group meeting of the Balkan Scientific Committee for BMPC. The meeting was held in Istanbul on January 20, 1995. After the thorough discussion, the Committee concluded to continue the activities of BMPC and decided, upon the suggestion of Prof. Dr. Dusan Salatic, to organize the sixth BMPC in Ohrid, Macedonia, in September 1995.
